No business like show business (for Blaine)

David is finding a rhythm with his lectures and his readings and his essays. He thinks. So he decides it would be safe enough to get involved in some sort of society. Scripps has been asking him about what he does outside of school, and he wants to have an answer other than, "Revising."

There's a theatrical society at Magdalen, and they're having a recruitment meeting for anyone interested in joining. He'd thought about trying to get Akthar to come with, but then he decided that Blaine would be better for that, so he asked the other boy to join him. And now he's knocking on Blaine's door to see if he's ready to head out to the meeting.

"Oh..." Blaine frowns a bit. "He had a girlfriend back home didn't he?"

"Yes, Fiona," David says with a sigh. "And now he's got a new one."

"Are you going to be okay?" Blaine asks after a moment.

David gives him a saddish smile. "I...I suppose so."

After a moment, he adds softly, "I really thought, if I got in here, he might...love me."

Blaine gives him a sympathetic look. "David," he says after a moment. "Maybe you should look at this place as a way to love yourself first." He presses his lips together for a moment, not sure if that came out right. "I mean, you put all of your self-worth into this one person, especially since he might not ever feel the same way. You're worth more than that."

"Thank you," David says with a faint smile.

"It isn't...I don't think I'm worthless if Dakin doesn't love me. Just...I had hoped..."

Blaine takes his hand and squeezes lightly. "Okay, good."

David smiles a bit more at that, and then he looks around the refectory before pulling his hand away slowly.

Blaine moves his hand to his neck, rubbing it in a little bit of embarrassment. "I mean it," he says. "But I'm sorry that Dakin turned out to be a bit of a disappointment."

He nods. "I suppose...much as I'd hoped. I never really expected it to happen."

"That doesn't make it easier..." Blaine points out.

"No, I suppose not," David murmurs.

Blaine smiles at that. "You're welcome to my supply any time."

David laughs a bit. "Excellent. I'm sure I'll...be just fine, then."

"At least life will be a little sweeter?" Blaine offers.

"Yes, I suppose that's the point of chocolate, isn't it?"

"It is." He leans a little closer. "That's why I always have some stashed in my room." The implication is that if David wants some he can always come to Blaine's room to talk.

David nods, smiling a bit more.

"Great." Blaine adds before turning to his lunch.

David turns to his as well, still a bit melancholy but trying not to show it.
