No business like show business (for Blaine)

David is finding a rhythm with his lectures and his readings and his essays. He thinks. So he decides it would be safe enough to get involved in some sort of society. Scripps has been asking him about what he does outside of school, and he wants to have an answer other than, "Revising."

There's a theatrical society at Magdalen, and they're having a recruitment meeting for anyone interested in joining. He'd thought about trying to get Akthar to come with, but then he decided that Blaine would be better for that, so he asked the other boy to join him. And now he's knocking on Blaine's door to see if he's ready to head out to the meeting.

"I think Akthar is doing something with computers. And Rudge has his rugby, of course."

"Can we go to a game?"

"I don't see why not."

"I miss American football," he admitted after a moment.

David laughs softly. "Well, from what I understand, it's not quite the same."

"No, but it will hold me over."

"You've got a thing for watching grown men throw around a ball and try to rip each other to pieces?"

Blaine raised his eye brow. "Don't you?"

David eyes him disbelievingly. "Not really, no."

He smirks a bit. "I do like the shorts, though..."

"Come on," Blaine said, nudging him slightly. "Men getting dirty and touching each other. They'll all athletic and grunting... What's not to like?" He never was usually this explicit with people but he was growing more and more comfortable with David.

David blushes a bit, ducking his head. "It's all fun and games until someone loses an ear..."

He has to admit, though, of all the boys at Cutlers, Rudge had by far looked the best naked.

"I say we go see a game and you let me see if we can get you to appreciate it."

"All right," David teases. "But I warn you, I've seen many, many rugby matches, and I still think it's mostly violence and mud."

"And men in shorts."

"Yes," David concedes with a chuckle. "And men in shorts."

Blaine stops teasing David when they get to lunch because he doesn't want their comments attracting attention of the other boys around. "So, if you want help working on an audition piece I'm always available."

"Cheers," David says, moving to get his lunch. "Same for me, you know."

"We can bounce ideas off each other. That always helps me."

"Yes, and I'm sure it'd do me good to rehearse with you."

"Good. This will be fun, if nothing else."

"Yes. And perhaps my mum will stop worrying I'm spending too much time with my books."

"With societies and rugby games she might start thinking you have a real social life."

"Hm, true. Then she might worry I'm not spending enough time with my books," David says with a chuckle.

"Mm. I suppose we can always cut back on the rugby."

David laughs and takes his meal to one of the tables. "We could, but then you wouldn't get your men groping each other in the mud," he says, keeping his voice down.
